University Park Christian Church collection, 1897-2006, bulk 1950-2000.

The collection contains material relating to University Park Christian Church and the two congregations, North Park Christian Church and University Place Christian Church, who preceded them. Also are records pertaining to Columbia Place Christian Church and Captitol Avenue Christian Church as they were predecessors to University Place Christian. Included in the collection are meeting minutes, legal documents, land deeds and agreements, correspondence, committee minutes, financial records, events and programs materials, church histories, annual reports, membership directories, weekly bulletins and newsletters, and photographs of various buildings occupied during the course of University Park's history.

The first congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in New Mexico was organzied by John C. Hay, in Roswell, in August 1893. Both the First Christian Church in Albuquerque and the Carlsbad church were established in 1910. A congregation at Portales was also organized in 1910. University Park Christian Church was formed in 1930 by a merger of University Place Christian Church and North Park Christian Church. They held Sunday morning services and had administrative offices at their building at 29th and Kenwood and held Sunday evening services at their building at 40th and Capitol.
